About this Website

In the 5 years we have been in business, our online presence has seen multiple updates on various platforms. We equipped our WordPress website with the plugins to ensure a functional, secure site. We then switched to Squarespace because WordPress required time to stay on top of updates and security threats. Unfortunately, our experience with Squarespace was a letdown since every template had a similar feel, and expenses rose with additional features.

We experimented with Webflow.com, an outstanding CMS, but not being developers. It felt as if we had purchased a sophisticated machine with no idea how to use let alone maximize its potential. We had the option to hire a developer, but we didn’t think our basic requirements needed that much effort.

Finally, I remembered a small platform I stumbled upon during COVID, blot.im. Bingo! The online world opened up to us. The simplicity of working in markdown or text files, coupled with the straightforward setup, meant we found a home.

In addition, I have the website set up as an Obsidan.md vault hosted on Dropbox. I recreated the Blot.im folder structure in Obsidian, allowing me to create blog posts and web pages. The greatest advantage of this workflow is the ability to edit the blog and webpage content from various devices, including my iPhone, iPad, MBP M1, and even my 2011 MB Air running Linux Ubuntu.

Blot’s markdown layout constraints have allowed us to concentrate on content rather than getting overwhelmed by the diverse features and choices of an advanced CMS.
